I sure did enjoy my Labor Day weekend. I didn't do much. Friday we prepared for a horse show, but when 5:00 AM on Saturday rolled around, rain was inevitable. So we decided not to go.
That meant the day was wide open. I hung out on the couch, did a little cleaning, and visited my good friend, Pine Hill, which by the way was packed. I had to create a parking space, and there were no carts left. But there was a fresh stock of cereal, and most of it wasn't even expired!
Speaking of food, it was the star of my Labor Day weekend, and coincidentally, none of it was barbequed.
Saturday night, my mom, Kb, and I went to the Amish Chinese place. That's not it's real name, but it is certainly what we call it. Chinese chefs and Amish waitresses create great egg drop soup and pork fried rice. I don't dig Chinese food very often, but this stuff hit the spot.
Sunday night, we invited Kb's family over to celebrate his birthday with a taco feast. It was oh so good. Even better was the ice cream cake for dessert. I am very thankful that Kb sees all that is good and wonderful about ice cream cake. That means that not only do I get ice cream cake at my birthday, I get it at his birthday, too!
And then on Monday morning we hit the mother-load: The Essenhaus breakfast buffet. We met up with some family friends, stuffed our bellies, and chatted until the breakfast food was replaced with lunch. I had meat ready to be barbequed on Monday evening, but Kb and I were both still stuffed from breakfast, dinner was an unnecessary afterthought.
This weekend, food also betrayed me. For the past week or so, I had been seeing little moths in the kitchen. I thought they were intruders from the outside, but when I wiped down my pantry cupboards on Sunday, I discovered that I was wrong. Behind my boxes of pasta and a bag of rice were several more moths and one tiny, white worm. I'm pretty sure I screamed. Nothing like bugs to make you feel like a horrible housekeeper. But, I've been reassured that it does not necessarily mean the house is dirty. Through a little research, I discovered that they were Indianmeal moths. Yuck. I threw out all of the pasta, rice, oatmeal, flour, sugar, and anything else I felt uneasy about. It seems to have diffused the problem so far. I just really don't like bugs in the house.
