Have I mentioned that I love summer food? All the grilled meat and fresh fruit, it's fantastic. I could quite possibly live off of corn on the cob and watermelon all summer long.
I've never bought chicken drumsticks before. It's difficult for me to justify paying money for bones. But they were a good deal at the grocery store, and I thought they'd be fun to try. Not to mention, Kb loooves his chicken. I paired the chicken with corn on the cob and spinach salad tonight. There is a patch of sweet corn out back. The farmer who farms the fields out in this neck of the woods, sows seed corn in his fields. Consequently, he asks each household to refrain from growing their own sweet corn. The sweet corn messes up the seed corn somehow. Cross pollination or something biological like that. So the farmer provides a nice patch of sweet corn behind our barns for the country neighborhood. I feel so indigenous, going out and picking our dinner off of the stalk.
I haven't done much gardening. Can you tell?
These days I drag my feet all across the kitchen floor before I am convinced to turn on the oven. With no air conditioning in our house, baking anything requires a shower and a change of clothes upon completion. Earlier in the week, I sweet talked Kb into grilling potatoes alongside his chicken breasts. We had yet to experiment with grilling anything besides meat and corn on the cob. We were fresh out of aluminum foil so I flopped the taters onto a pizza pan and grilled them up. They were fantastic. The recipe called for a crazy combination of seasonings. The onion powder, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper were all typical roasted potato seasonings. But the addition of paprika and sugar really kicked it up a notch and created a tasty tangle of flavors. It was definitely a "make again" recipe.
